Having dedicated over three months working on this Kickstarter – designing the Kickstarter story, designing and sourcing merchandise and balancing the cost for delivery – I have found that it is not possible to run a Kickstarter for this book without making substantial losses. And so, with regret, I have no choice but to discontinue this fund raiser.
The big problem is that I have been seeking to raise funds for my project, to complete and publish my novel, but Kickstarter is unfortunately aimed as providing a market for selling products that are already funded. The cost of the project, promotion and the production of products for Kickstarter customers mitigates any attempt to raise funds.
However, I have since sought means to get my novel ready for publication and so now hope to be able to do this in the second half of 2026. Your support is still very important, as my work is worth nothing if people do not enjoy it, and if no one buys it then I cannot continue.
Thank you for your support,
John Thompson

Hi community,
I’ve been quiet recently about the progress of the Kickstarter for The King’s Pride, so here is a quick update.
I have been exploring fulfilment options for the rewards that can be offered by this Kickstarter. There are many companies out there that provide services, but it takes a lot of care to ensure that they will provide the service that I expect for you, my backers, and at a reasonable cost.
I am making progress, but am not there yet. When I am closer then I will be able to share my Kickstarter pre-launch page with you, so that you can learn more about what is on offer prior to launch.
Thank you for your patience.
John

This adventure is set in the small coastal town of Caister, in the land of Valamire, and centres around a rowdy dockside tavern by the name of The Maiden of the Sea. All sorts come to this tavern to drink hard, let their hair down or have a good fight. And this includes sailors, smuggles, foolhardy locals, even the odd pirate, and any number of other ne'er-do-wells and ruffians. Some retired and others far from it.
This tavern is a boiling pot for adventure which will expose the less desirable side of this otherwise apparently respectable town. You will uncover the hidden secrets of the town and its people, resulting in unexpected dramas and rewards.
This adventure focuses on the social interaction aspect of role playing, with dramatic adventure and combat as the stories unfold.

For over a year now I have been working on the first Ordinem novel, The King's Pride. Although I am approaching publishing agents to get this book published, I have also started work on a Kickstarter in order to self-publish my novel. More detail about this Kickstarter is to follow.

The new adventure "The Maiden of the Sea" is on its way. This adventure will soon be available on Shard Tabletop, and I am setting up a virtual table to run it. Find out more at Discord, where players at this table will have access to a channel to meet and chat about the adventure.

Hi Everyone. I've been working on a new adventure called The Maiden of the Sea. Some of you may recognise the name from the one page adventure that I posted on Patreon last year.
This new adventure takes the whole scenario further, with short adventures that tie into each other. It is set in the small coastal town of Caister in the land of Valamire, and the adventures centre around the renown and rowdy dockside tavern called "The Maiden of the Sea".
I have created it on Shard Tabletop and I am interested in getting a group together to run this scenario online, so if you are looking for a D&D 5e adventure to play in then let me know.

Hi everyone. I have now finished the novel The King's Pride, which is set in the fantasy World of Ordinem. I am now looking for a publisher, so if you know anyone that can help with that then any assistance would be appreciated.
As a taster, the back cover blurb is shown below (pending a publisher suggesting a better one):-
"When princess Isolde and the knight sir Verna are discovered in her bed chamber together, a dark and troubling plot is uncovered.
The king’s sheriff Gerhard Keller is tasked with investigating, even as the king and the queen will have nothing bad said about their beloved daughter.
Starting in the royal palace, these events expand to reveal sinister forces at work beyond the borders of the land of Valamire. What fate awaits the princess, and what form will the coming storm take."

Hi Everyone,
Just a quick update. Ordinem has just changed its internet website address to www.world-of-ordinem.com. This puts Ordinem on a more commercial footing, as the old domain name used a .org suffix. The old domain name will continue to work for a few months, but please change any links or shortcuts that you have to the new one in order to keep them working.
I would have chosen a simpler .com domain name, but it seems that GoDaddy is squatting on the one I would have chosen, and asking an exorbitant amount for it.
Thanks for your support.

Hi everyone,
Just a quick update on progress with the first Ordinem novel, "The King's Pride".
I am nearing the 300 page mark and estimate that the total length of this dramatic story will be around 600 pages. This story centres around the drama of the characters princess Isolde of Valamire and the knight Sir Verna. They have an affair under her father the king's nose, but it is no ordinary love story as mystical tragedy soon follows.
I am now at the point where I am looking for a publisher or an agent to help complete, promote and distribute the novel. If you, or anyone you know, has contacts in the publishing industry that may be interested in this novel then please let them know, or please do message me about them at Contact Ordinem.
Thanks,
John

Hi Everyone
Sorry I have been so quiet recently. I have been thinking about the best ways to share Ordinem with you. There are of course adventures and a compendium (see Publications), and there more articles, short stories and mini adventures on Patreon.
However, I am keen to tell you that I have started work on a series of novels set on the continent of Scionos. This will take a lot of my time, but when the first one is completed it will uncover an inspiring journey into the world of Ordinem. I look forward to completing this so you can enjoy more of this world.

Just a quick update about the Kickstarter campaign.
Unfortunately the Kickstarter campaign has not proved to be a big success. I have learned a lot about how to run such campaigns, including ensuring that I have a much larger following before starting a campaign, and having benefactors that have agreed ahead of time to make pledges. Also, it is important to structure rewards carefully, providing specific products for each reward tier as well as for add-ons. It is also really important to have a great graphic artist on side as well.
Perhaps in the future I can give it another try, though your support on social media is not just appreciated but vital to the success of a Kickstarter campaign.
Thank you.

The Kickstarter campaign has revealed that there is a one-shot adventure in development, that Kickstarters will be able to get their hands on before the public release.
There are in fact two adventures well into development, and many other ideas waiting to be developed. The other adventure is the sequel to the adventure "The Ghost Watcher", and takes the players on a journey deeper into The Bad Lands, to find out the truth of what the feared Blood Eaters are.
